Thursday Farmers’ Market at Capitol Mall

If you’ve visited Sacramento’s Capital, you’ll notice a long greenway driving to the entrance.  This area is called “the greens” of Capital Mall.  Don’t think downtown plaza mall but the grassy median area between buildings on either side of the street.  On the east side of the Capital, the street is named Capital Avenue.  On the west side, it is Capitol Mall.

Locals and visitors alike can now enjoy the Capitol Mall Farmers’ Market, every Thursday through September 30 on these “greens” between 6th and 7th Streets from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  To optimize access, the Capitol Mall street area will be closed to car traffic during the Market from 5th to 7th Street East bound, 6th to 7th Streets West bound, and Sixth Street will be closed North bound from Capitol Mall to L Street.  Abundant parking is available in adjacent office towers, pubic garages in the vicinity and metered street parking on L and N Streets.

What a superb use of this area that has only consumed water to date.  Wouldn’t it be magnificent if it was covered and made into a San Francisco Ferry Building type market?  Or the Grandville Island Market in Vancouver, British Columbia?  Dare I say La Boqueria in Barcelona?

For information about this Market call 916-498-6215.  If Thursdays don’t work for you, check out other markets in the area at California-Grown.
